When God put Adam and Eve on Mother Earth he

knowingly did not give them a language to talk to each

other. But since they had to interact with each other, they

accidently invented the sign language. From there on

started the process of developing sign language which

ultimately resulted in the invention of written and spoken

languages. According to Ethnologue, 7,097 languages are

spoken today. As per the statistical data provided

by Ethnologue, 50% of world’s population is being covered

by 23 major languages and English is one of these

languages, in fact it is one of the most spoken languages

in the world, second to Chinese.

English language originally belonged to Britain and

expanded to all the British Colonies of the British Empire

during the 18th and 19th centuries. This is the reason that

all the countries where English is an official language

were former British colonies, including Canada, Australia,

South Africa and the United States. Officially, just 12

percent of Indian people speak English, with many only

speaking it as a second language. But since India has an

extremely dense population, even 12 percent cross-

section of the society is more than 100 million people. As

a result of which India has one of the largest English

speaking population in the world.
